WELCOME TO LITTLE ROCK POTTERY

Hello and bonjour! My name is Rochelle, which means Little Rock in French.

The journey of colour, clay, and creating began for me in nature. My inspiration comes from canoe camping, walking, hiking, cross country skiing, and exploring the areas of Treaty 7 land surrounding my current home city of Brooks, AB. The natural colours in winter and summer, at sunset and sunrise, and the night stars were unique and I had an urge to recreate those colours in my pottery.

It is in nature that I have found healing. It is in my pottery that you can see what I see in the beauty of the Badlands.

The badlands are rich with dinosaur bones, sandy river banks, cactus, and hoodoos. The summer sunsets are the faded colours of berries and pink roses. The banks of the Red Deer River are the sandy shades of oat fields. Water is all around us, you just have to drive to find it.

I am a new potter and only started throwing on the wheel in March 2019. I began throwing pottery as a way of healing and for self care. What I didn’t realize is that I would find such a deep connection and passion to pottery. This is my hobby so restocks come every 6 weeks. I never wish to replicate any item that I create but rather maintain the vision and flow of the colours and shapes. Just like people, each piece is unique. I prefer my pieces to be imperfect. I am not a potter that creates to make perfect lines and soft edges. My expression of imperfections in my pottery is my art.

From the time I was a teenager, I loved pottery. Every year, I would save all my money to buy my mom a beautiful piece of pottery. My prices are competitive and I want to make pottery more accessible to everyone. As a result, I do not do special orders but rather, when I sit down to create something with clay, I let my creativity flow. It's much more enjoyable this way!

Thank you for browsing, shopping, and visiting Little Rock!
